About this index
Court Commanders Hotel Index is an independent editorial index of hotels, organised into four fixed categories and written in-house. It sells nothing, takes no bookings, and holds no commercial relationship with any property described on it.
The editorial method is deliberately narrow. Each property is described in prose rather than in a specification grid, because a grid reports amenities and loses temperament, and temperament is the part a reader cannot look up elsewhere. Facts that are genuinely useful in isolation — a category, a building type, a season, a facility — are set beside the text as numbered margin notes, in the manner of a journal footnote moved out of the gutter.
What the index does not contain
There are no star ratings, no numerical scores, no guest reviews and no availability data anywhere on this site. Nothing here is ranked, and the order in which properties appear carries no judgement. Where a claim would require sourcing to be responsible, it is not made: descriptions are limited to the general, durable character of a building.
Categories
The four categories — art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels — are fixed and will not expand. They were chosen because each represents a genuinely distinct answer to the question of what a hotel is for, rather than four points on a single scale of price or luxury. Casino hotels are treated as hotels first, with the gaming floor noted as one facility among several.
Revisions
Hotels change hands, close for renovation, rebuild and occasionally disappear. Entries are revised when that happens, and the edition line in the footer indicates when the index was last reviewed as a whole. Corrections from readers are welcome and are the fastest way a factual error gets fixed.
